Embers of Anger

EMBERS OF ANGER.jpg

She isn’t ready for change…
Ella Grace Whitford enjoyed a serene life in New Bern, North
Carolina until the war marched into town and ravaged everything in its path. Alone, with the care of her little brother and his new puppy, Ella is determined to protect her home at all costs and that means avoiding the Union army that has taken control over the area. But avoiding the ruggedly handsome Union officer, Colonel Jackson Ross, is next to impossible when he sets up camp on her land.

He isn’t ready for love…
With the fall of New Bern, it’s up to Jackson to maintain law, order, and stability in the area, a calling that is second nature to him. When Jackson finds out that the lovely Miss Ella Grace Whitford is all but living alone on a large property outside of town, he’s determined to do all that he can to keep her and her brother safe.

As dangerous secrets entangle them in a deadly web and the threat of death closes in, Jackson and Ella face the ultimate choice between love and loyalty.

★★★★★ “Anna St. Claire is fierce in her writing, holding nothing back. She gives the reader a clear descriptive view of every aspect of the story. She captivates you with the characters, she intrigues you with secrets and family loyalty, she draws you in with fear and strength and keeps you engaged with love and kindness. Each paragraph to every chapter, leaves the reader needing and wanting to know more. The book is well written and the perfect combination of sadness, love, family and loyalty. The end of the story leaves you fulfilled and at the same time wanting to know more about the secondary characters. I, for one, CAN NOT wait for the next one!!!!” Heather

★★★★★ “I absolutely loved this story. Jackson and Ella were a sizzling and yet sweet couple. The author did a great job pf pulling me into the war torn south and showed the realistic struggles of everyone to survive. I loved the passion between Ella and Jackson. It was a slow burn romance that felt real and so well developed. Its hard to find goof civil war romances so ill be reading more from this author!” ~ L. D. Smith

★★★★★ “I loved the pace the author used in this offering. I became immersed in the unlikely situations that Jackson and Ella have to confront , as well as those which have yet to come. The two major action situations that defined these characters were written in a fast moving pace that gave me the feeling of have witnessed the event in real time. I look forward to the next stage for this unlikely pair as well with the supporting characters who have plenty of their own unfinished business.” ~ Paula Baldwin

★★★★★ “It was so easy to lose myself in this novel--Anna St. Claire has such a gift for storytelling. She can draw you in quickly with just enough descriptive writing to help you see and feel her setting in the North Carolina town of New Bern, and her fast-paced, fluid story holds your interest until the end. The author also shows a real talent for creating and developing believable characters, both major and minor; they add a human element that makes the story especially enjoyable. For dog lovers like me, there’s a canine element in the book, as well—Bo, the Labrador puppy, who not only provides comic relief, but plays an important role in saving the heroine’s life at one point in the story. In my opinion, this story has all the ingredients for a good historical romance. I like novels that leave me a little more knowledgeable about a certain time period, and the author has obviously gone to some trouble to research the Civil War period in the New Bern area. I would like to see even more historical facts incorporated into the story, but that’s just my preference. Others may be more interested in the romantic aspects of the story; if so, they won’t be disappointed! The romance between the chivalrous hero, Jackson, and the spirited, independent heroine, Ella, develops slowly, with plenty of obstacles to overcome; it’s a sweet and charming love story, well-seasoned with spicy bits and lots of sexual tension, and it comes to a very heartwarming and satisfying conclusion. I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next!” ~ Librariana

★★★★★ “This book should come with a warning... "Once you start the book, you won't be able to put it down!" The heroine was stubborn and determined, but she had to be. Her town was overrun by those dang Union soldiers. The hero was a dashing hunk and made me swoon. I love how the romance started slow and built up to a tender relationship that would stand the test of time. (I am a sucker for a HEA) Check out this book. You won't be disappointed. (It is not squeeky clean. So it is more of an adult read)” ~ L. Beers
